The New Spring Summer 2012 collection

Mapping out a path through Manhattan. Ever a symbol of opportunity and temptation, the Big Apple is a centrifugal force of hopes and ideas that has greeted foreigners of all races and social extractions. A multiform universe in perpetual evolution. This is the Colmar Originals story: notes and cues on the spring/summer 2012 collection.

Our walk around town starts in Greenwich Village, the residential district in the heart of the city where we find New York University. The “Village” is a major hub of the social, political and artistic movements that contribute to modifying American culture, along with the thought patterns of the young college students who live there.

They are the ones narrating this story. Talking, for instance, about the colorful reversible jackets they have on this season. They go for madras plaids in combo with plain tones. They love solids too, unbeatable for competing in a New York streetball tournament in Washington Square Park, prime pivot point of the neighborhood.

For playing sports in an urban context there are thermowelded tech items complete with contrast tape trim. Plus superlight down puffer pieces with contrast lining. To put an original slant on the summer in the city, active mode.

This stroll through the Big Apple continues in the LOWER EAST SIDE, one of Manhattan’s most historic districts. A charming old flair is exactly what these T-shirts, sweatshirts and pants have, for they feature a special cold dyeing process where after the wash the color fades and so the fabric takes on a lovely marble effect.
We come to the end of our path in the ROOF TOP part of town. Not many signs lead in this direction, mark the way to the top floor of the skyscrapers that seem to hide little corners of paradise – as if nothing were missing up there for making the most of a hot New York summer. Fifth Avenue with all the appeal of Ocean Drive, for a bright beachwear collection presenting boxer swim trunks in classic sailor colors – white, red, navy blue – and in a funkier palette of gorgeous greens and yellows.

Ronald Reagan, Republican candidate for President of the United States, has just won the election… it’s the mythical 1980s.

The Colmar Originals story begins here… with more to come.
